OK, so I measured 16" from the corner and thought the drill was biting into the stud. Apparently, it's just thick drywall. On the second attempt, I used a stud finder and that puppy is really anchored now.

A running commentary on the new HO scale 10' x 10' model railroad set around summer of 1956 in western Pennsylvania. I take vast liberties with PRR history so that I model the area I grew up near Irwin, East McKeesport, Herminie, and Greensburg.
