Workbench

After finishing Clancy's Tavern, I still have several projects in progress - Rt 30 bridge, scenery around the bridge and buildings, backdrops in Irwin, finish GGS Cabinets and plaster the hill in Herminie. First, I really, really needed to clean off my workbench.
Lisa found this desk at a garage sale and its perfect for my needs. I added a set of legs to the left and have used this as my modeling workbench for about 15 years now.
Tool caddy
About the same time as I set up the workbench, I created a tool caddy based on some articles in Model Railroader. Of course, the ones in the magazine were nicely crafted, finished wood works of art. Mine is much lower end, but efficient, practical and I did not have to measure twice, cut once! A few wooden blocks glued to a base with varying sized drill holes for holding tools vertical and a couple of cardstock pockets for bigger items like pliers. I keep an old pill jar for used blades, some glues and a film canister filled with graphic for couplers waiting for installation on the rolling stock.

Modeling workbench
The workbench sits under the layout below Irwin East Yard. I have 3 different lights providing more that enough illumination. A couple of small chests container parts, screws, etc. as needed.
Paint shelf
Left of the workbench, I mounted a small shelf to the benchwork where I have all the model paints and some clamps for holding the models together while they dry.
Overall, I am very happy with my model work area - if I can just keep it this clean before each time I want to work on a project!
